GEOFFREY BEENE's Original Vintage c. 1980's Jet Black Faille Silk A-Line Dress
Beautifully Square shaped Neckline with a defined shoulder and a Short Dolman Sleeve
So chic and contemporary, you would think it was made by Ralph Rucci yesterday!

GEOFFREY BEENE was one of the very few TRUE AMERICAN DESIGNERS.
His originality is unparalleled
and he always sashayed to "his own orchestra".
He did not merely manufacture Couture Sportswear and Dresses,
(as most American Designers do)
he had his own unique perspective on STYLE.
Many of the Haute Couture create One-Of-A-Kind fantasies that appear on the runway,
not as fashion, but as High Art.
Americans delight in a less complicated lifestyle
and we covet our comfort in Casual pieces that
rely almost completely on the beauty of their fabrications and elegance of styling.

GEOFFREY BEENE's designs were structured but never rigid & depend on the craftsmanship of careful detail.
Many of his designs contain an element of fantasy.
He exhibited a casual approach to opulent fabrics
and successfully blended materials in an unexpected way.
He loved Flannel with Rhinestones,
Cotton Ticking with Chiffon or Jersey with Taffeta.

GEOFFREY BEENE, known for his rich and imaginative clothes showed his creativity by designing with a relaxed elegance.
After half a century Beene reserved his energies for his aesthetic vision,
one that varied, but remained true to his own fundamentals.
Sadly, with his death, the GEOFFREY BEENE Couture label was discontinued.
Here is an Elegant Dark Forest Green and Jet Black Color Blocked Jacket
that was pre-owned and worn only once or twice.

What is odd about this dress - although exquisite on the outside
does not seem to be made with the same french seams and finishing that Beene was known for.
This is an estate dress, and the owner has clearly removed the lining - probably so that it could be altered slightly.

The dress is completely cut on the bias and has beautiful movement in the swinging skirt
39" Long from shoulder to hemline
35" Bustline
31" Waistline
44" Hipline
about 115" Hemline
14" sleeve from interior shoulder seam to end of cuff.
Without the lining alterations can be made.
I would guess this to be a Size 8-10
It is perfect! no snags or pulls
