GEOFFREY BEENE was one of the very few TRUE AMERICAN DESIGNERS.
His originality is unparalleled
and he always sashayed to "his own orchestra".
He did not merely manufacture Couture Sportswear and Dresses,
(as most American Designers do)
he had his own unique perspective on STYLE.
Many of the Haute Couture create One-Of-A-Kind fantasies that appear on the runway,
not as fashion, but as High Art.
Americans delight in a less complicated lifestyle
and we covet our comfort in Casual pieces that
rely almost completely on the beauty of their fabrications and elegance of styling.

GEOFFREY BEENE's designs were structured but never rigid & depend on the craftsmanship of careful detail.
Many of his designs contain an element of fantasy.
He exhibited a casual approach to opulent fabrics
and successfully blended materials in an unexpected way.
He loved Flannel with Rhinestones,
Cotton Ticking with Chiffon or Jersey with Taffeta.

GEOFFREY BEENE, known for his rich and imaginative clothes
showed his creativity by designing with a relaxed elegance.
After half a century Beene reserved his energies for his aesthetic vision,
one that varied, but remained true to his own fundamentals.
Sadly, with his death, the GEOFFREY BEENE Couture label was discontinued.
This was an enormous loss to the world of Fashion everywhere.
His work continues to be an inspiration to designers on every continent.

Here is an inspiration Four Piece Ensemble
that was pre-owned and worn only once or twice.
In perfect condition.
Dates from the late 1980's and has been freshly dry-cleaned.
A combination of fabrications including extraordinary Silk and Wool Tweed
Tagged a Size 10.

Couture GEOFFREY BEENE Ensemble
the four pieces consist of a Full Long Wool tweed Skirt with a tiny scallop Border
A Cabbage Rose Pattern Black Background Silk Chiffon Blouse appliqued with Black Alencon Lace
A Matching Chiffon and Lace Large Square Shawl
And a Shaped Raspberry and Gray Tweed Jacket with a fold back lapel and cuff
I think that if you removed the tags the jacket could be made totally reversible.

The top features a Bateau neckline and is made completely out of the Cabbage Rose Silk Chiffon
Soft Ballooning Sleeves that end with an elastic and then a 3" Long Ruffle of the intricate black lace
the black lace is appliqued directly onto the chiffon from neckline to hemline in the front
And also adorns the sleeves below the elbow.
The chiffon is relatively sheer - but without a camisole you can only see through the back

Please note that any white spots or imperfections you see on the blouse are caused
by the photographic lights and the reflection of the shiny mannequin. The piece is perfect.


The background color is black and the Cabage roses and leaves are a plethora of reds, roses,
Pinks, Raslpberries, Dark Shades of Green and Magenta.
The shirt is donned over the head
Lace scallop edges the hemline of the top

40" bustline and 40" Hemline
Long Inset sleeves are about 27" including the lace edging.

The Shawl is a large almost square made of the exact same fabrication as the blouse
46" x 48" including a 3" edge of the black alencon lace all the way around.
We've shown it draped a multitude of ways and even as a belt.
It is the perfect accessory to finish off the outfit.

The Jacket is a Striated Tweed of Raspberry and Gray on the outside
The interior is the same striated tweed in shades of gray
Edged in Passementerie around the neckline and open front of the collar and the end of the cuffs
Single button closure at the front and also at the cuffline, although we have shown them folded back
The hemline is the famouns Geoffrey Beene Curve so that the front & back curve loswer than the sides.
The coloration is so amazing that it picks up every nuance of the silk print and the flecking in the skirt.
If you remove the labels you chould probably wear the jacket inside out - Every seam is perfect, and the
edging circles the interior of the jacket on the gray side.
Tagged a Size 10 and made in the USA
Jacket is 22" Long to the longest point
40" Bustline, 39" approximately at hemline
23" Long Inset Sleeves so that the lace of the blouse will peek through.
No Pockets and no lining.

The Skirt is a Fullish A-Line Skirt of a sturdy woolen tweed.
Color is Brown/Black and has flecks of every color that appears in the patterning of the chiffon
the flecking is very subtle and you could easily wear this with almost anything you own.
The skirt is wool and has some texture to it.
It is unlined but has a tiny rick-rack finish to the hemline
Side Zipper
Front is elasticized to give some extra width should you need it.
There are slender belt loops - but sorry, no belt. It would look great with a plain black alligator belt.

Hemline about 81" and cut on a bias.
Slash pockets on each hipline of the skirt
