RICCARDO TISCI for GIVENCHY Spring RTW Runway 2011
A fabulous take on the Leopard Jacket with an exaggerated tail back
NEW with Tags Size 6
The juddering crunch of psycho-goth band Salem was the aural intro
to Riccardo Tisci's latest show for Givenchy.
It established a new kind of rhythm for the house, less Catholic, more pagan.
The keynote was the leopard, fast cat of the savanna.
It infused the collection on every level, from the tone-on-tone dévoré relief on a jacket
to the pattern on a floating chiffon overskirt to the exploded graphic on a pair of pants.
Nothing says old-school glamour like that particular animal print,
but tapping into his inherent Gothicism, Tisci dragged it into the here and now
with his elongated riffs on twenty-first-century decadence.
He softened the silhouette, making it more accessible, but that is Tisci's proven recipe:
some common-sense commerce here, some wanton creativity there.
And no doubt that will be his formula for the future.
Here is a 100% Cotton fabulous Blazer that has the look and almost the feel of a real haired animal
If you didn't touch it, you would never know that it is COTTON
Revere Collar
Long Inset Sleeves
Slit Pockets still closed by the factory
Lined in Black Viscose
Front of the jacket comes to elongated points
Back of the jacket is extraordinary
Triangular darted seams to accentuate the slimness of the waistline
Two over-vents very close to the center of the hemline of the jacket
The center panel extends past the hemline to give the effect of a Tail or Tailcoat
If you want to be less avant garde, it would be a small order to even out the back hemline
At the GAULTIER Show at the Dallas Museum of Art - there are many fascinating
Items and detailing of high fashion
There is a jacket cut similarly to this one of Cognac Crocodile
I believe that it was Gaultier made for HERMES
That jacket also extended the Crocodile tail to
The back of the knees of the mannequin.
This Givenchy was clearly an accolade to Gaultier's genius.
But, I must say that TISCI's vision translates far better to the real world.
One self-covered buttons at the cuffline and a lone shiny Black Faceted Glass button provides closure.
